APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR BELTS WITH METAL TOOTH AND ADJUSTABLE PLASTIC BUCKLES:
- Place the belt around the patient’s clothed waist with the buckle open at the front and the labels facing the patient.
- Thread the end of the belt between the open slot and the teeth on the hinged side of buckle.
- Pass the belt over the teeth and through the toothless slot of the buckle.
- Adjust to desired fit and secure. The belt should be tight enough that it does not slide down the patient, but not such that it impairs the patient’s circulation. The caregiver should be able to fit their fingers between the belt and the patient.
- The excess tail of the belt should be folded over and secured between the belt and the patient.
Warnings
NEVER apply a gait belt or transfer belt if there is any compromise of safety. PRIOR TO EACH USE, visually and functionally inspect the belt. ALWAYS inspect the buckle for functionality to ensure the buckle secures properly and there is no slippage. DO NOT use the belt if the buckle does not stay secure. DO NOT use the product if there are broken stitches, cut or frayed material. NEVER use a gait belt or transfer belt as a seat belt or to position a person in a chair or vehicle.
CAUTION: Always check for skin integrity, proper circulation and range of motion while using the belt.
